Aloe vera leaf is a miraculous healing food that is one of the oldest healing remedies and natural antibiotics in the world. Taken internally, aloe works wonders for assimilation, circulation, and elimination. It is known to purify the blood, reduce inflammation, ease arthritis pain, prevent kidney stones, lower high cholesterol, prevent Candida, boost physical endurance, benefit cardiovascular health, and protect the body from oxidative stress. It also soothes ulcers, hemorrhoids, gastritis, diverticulitis, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, and other digestive disorders. Aloe provides recovery from fatigue and aids in muscle function as well as optimal utilization of several vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. It’s alkaline nature, helps to soothe acidosis and alkalinize the whole body.

How do I make aloe water?

Ingredients:

  • 1 fresh aloe leaf (only a 2-inch piece will be used per serving)
  • 8-16 ounces of water

Directions:

Cut a 2-inch piece off the aloe leaf. Scoop out the gel and place the gel in a blender with 8-16 ounces of water. Blend on high for 10-20 seconds. Pour in glass and drink immediately on an empty stomach for optimal benefits.

Tip: wrap remaining aloe leaf in kitchen towel or plastic wrap and store in fridge, will stay good for 1-2 weeks in fridge and can be used as needed.

Fresh aloe leaves can be found in the produce section of most supermarkets.

Will bottled aloe have the same benefits?

Fresh aloe gel from the leaf is best whenever possible and has greater benefits.

How often should I drink aloe water?

It is best to drink aloe water every day or as often as possible for optimal benefits.

Will aloe water cause diarrhea?

No, it will not. It’s important to use the clear aloe gel inside the aloe leaf and not the green outer leaf. However, if someone already experiences diarrhea, it’s possible that they may still experience diarrhea when first adding in new healing foods.

Is this safe for pregnant women?

Yes, it’s safe during pregnancy.

Can I mix aloe gel with a juice or smoothie or add lemon or honey to it?

Aloe has the most therapeutic benefits by itself or in water, but you certainly can blend it into a juice or smoothie if you would like or add some lemon and honey. There is one recipe for an Aloe Cooler in my book Life-Changing Foods. And an Aloe Pineapple Juice Cooler recipe on my blog.

What specific type of aloe plant is used?

Look for the edible aloe barbadensis leaves. They are usually found in the produce section of grocery stores. It’s important to only use an edible variety so if you grow your own aloe, be sure to check you have the right variety.

I can’t find organic aloe leaves at our grocery store. Is it safe to use if not organic?

Yes, organic is best but it’s fine to use aloe leaves that are not organic.

Can I drink this any time of day?

Aloe water is most beneficial on an empty stomach, but you will still get benefits drinking it any time of day.

Can I freeze the aloe?

It’s best fresh. You can store the leaves in the refrigerator and fillet off a piece of aloe when you want to make aloe water.

Does the water need to be chilled?

No, room temperature water is fine.

Should I drink aloe water after celery juice in the morning or alternate the two?

If you are drinking Celery Juice on an empty stomach in the morning, you can drink aloe water after it. Wait at least 15-30 minutes after celery juice.

Is it safe while breastfeeding?

Yes, it’s safe for both mother and baby.
