Passersby at the supermarket usually ignore the humble papaya. Little do they know that by avoiding this fruit, they’re missing out on a piece of their salvation. If you’re struggling with any kind of stomach or intestinal disorder, papayas cannot be beat. They can reverse colitis, Crohn’s, IBS, ulcers, diverticulitis, gastritis, gastric spasms, liver disease, and pancreatitis. They also kill off H. pylori, C. difficile, and E. coli, plus rid the gut of other unfriendly bacteria and parasites, including worms. Papaya is an ideal food if you’re dealing with SIBO.

Papaya is the number-one fruit for digestibility. Each papaya contains more than 500 undiscovered powerful digestive enzymes that support the pancreas, aid digestion, and mend the walls of the intestinal tract, reducing inflammation and preventing scar tissue from forming there. Papaya’s amino acids and enzymes combined create undiscovered subcompound phytochemicals that repel viruses. Papaya also contains potent and as yet undiscovered coenzymes that enhance the alkalinity inside the intestinal tract.

If you need help relieving constipation, papaya is for you. If you suffer from stomach- aches or an inflamed intestinal lining, papaya will be your ally in healing the irritated nerve endings that contribute to these ailments. Whenever someone has gone through a period of not eating, whether from fasting, anorexia, or grave illness, blended papaya is like magic for the refeeding process, because it offers ample calories, optimal nutrition, and digests so favorably.

Papaya is also a miracle worker for the skin. This fruit has anti-wrinkle, fountain-of-youth powers due to its high content of vitamins, minerals, and most important, caratenoids. Not only can it help your skin glow again, it can also clear up eczema, psoriasis, and acne.

SPIRITUAL LESSON

The papaya tree is often skinny and frail, yet each holds a large crop of one of the heaviest fruits there is. This will and determination to overcome physics and balance no matter what is almost supernatural. It teaches us that we can overcome our seeming weaknesses—when we are working in service to a noble cause. It’s not what we look like on the outside that counts for anything; the true self that’s inside each of us determines what we can really accomplish.

Hidden inside each papaya are medicinal truths. When we eat them, our bodies immediately identify these elements and put them to use, redesigning us physically so that we can heal and become our strongest selves. Papaya trees and their fruit want us to understand that there are no limitations to healing, growth, and becoming. Disease and physical challenges cannot hold us back; we can transform situations that seem, at first, impossible.

TIPS

* For constipation relief, eat half a papaya daily.

* Look for the Mexican and Central American papaya variety known as Maradol. These medium-to-large papayas are preferable to Hawaiian varieties, which have suffered GMO contamination. (If you’re growing papayas at home in Hawaii, that’s a different story. Just be sure to look after your trees with care to avoid GMO influence.)

* If you like spice, eat a few papaya seeds along with the fruit. Eating a small portion of papaya seeds per week can be beneficial for eliminating parasites. For the ultimate in gut-health repair, drink a tonic of papaya blended with celery juice.
